BE A (hu)MAN!!!!

I am Sundaara , now dont go asking me stupid human question as to which one of these two beauties is me. Obviously I am the pretty one, the fairer one, that is how you humans judge a person, right?? The fairer the person is, the better heart he/she is supposed to have. Well that is not how we do it in animal world, but my name is Sundaara which is kept by my mom. The black beauty is my sister, Kaali. Yeah , go ahead , sneer at us , snort and say "STRAYS!!!!!" We are strays, thanks to you the superior animals...

Seriously dude, what was God thinking when he decided to give insanely large number of responsibilities of the animal kingdom to you guys..If it were not for your ignorance, uncaring attitude and cruel behaviour towards us , we would have been happy and stray!!(pun intended). But right now we are just stray and helpless. If it were not for some rare, kind and still humane people like my mom , we would have been extinct.

She feeds us, she sees to it we never go empty stomach, she even makes sure we have a shade to sit in winters. So all in all life is good for us. But, and this is a bigger BUT than you thought, there are 1000 of strays in our localities including cows, dogs, cats and others who are not so lucky as me and Kaali. They get beaten by the residents, thrown stones at. Imagine you guys, the same very breed who worships the cow as "Gau Maata" , hitting us with sticks and stones if we come so much near your posh bungalows. I cant tell you the horrors I see on a daily basis when I roam around the city.

Seeing them I thank my lucky stars that I have a human family who cares for me.

God has provided you with the resources, brains and capabilities to make this world a better place for all of us to live happily, I do not understand why do you humans act like sheer barbarians. Dont you have any conscience left on you to sit and ponder for a while how to make our situation better. Dog catchers, and stray catchers are not the RIGHT solution, do you hear me human, we are not some inanimate object which you throw in a cage whenever you like and can go and worship whenever some priest tells you to pray a Black cow, or to feed a black dog. Keep your stupid hypocrisies to your God's idol and not to us. We never ask you twice before letting you take our advantage to fulfill your needs, be it milk, wool , or guarding your door and ploughing your fields. So why do you think you can treat us the way you do right now.

I do not say that none of you care , in fact a large no of you people care, SPCA or society for the  prevention of cruelty towards animals is one such organization continuously and arduously working towards the betterment of the strays.
SPCA
This organization has already worked wonders in foreign countries and is already spreading its roots in INDIA. But the ratio of people working and caring is pretty troubling coz we are much more in numbers.
Another issue is that most of the cities are devoid of any such organization to take care of the strays and abandoned animals. I live in Lucknow and there is no SPCA to save my friends out here. My heart goes to them when I see little puppies being trampled and run over by uncontrolled vehicles or calves chewing polythenes and dying at an early age. I dont know the statistics but I do know a large population of ours has died due to your complete ignorance of nature and destroying mother Earth with your unwanted inventions like polythenes and plastic. I wish just for one day there should be a role reversal (no pun intended)  and then you will realize the atrocities you shower on us. Be a (hu)MAN!!! and show some mercy instead of killing us for pleasure , to satisfy your taste buds, or to cater to your fashion needs. I am a brave cow , but when I see my other friends dying of hunger, or wounded in an accident I get scared for my sister and myself.. We have a friend Monty , who helps us when some troublesome human shows us his animal side, but even he is just a stray dog, and he too is dependent on my mom for food.

It gets lonely at night , and we do get scared , of humans, God knows when one of you loses his mind and decides to take it out on us by hitting us, and throwing us out of the campus. You are human beings , you can take care of your kind efficiently due to your larger brain size and evolved capabilities, we are dependent on you, and do not take advantage of that fact instead help us.

Have you ever realized that your every sentence (well most of the student's) ends with bullshit!!! and you have not even left our shit alone, I heard Baba Ramdev using it in many medicines, and what was that cow 's urine being used to cure diseases???? If we are so bloody useful to you , dont you think we deserve some kind of respect and care from you. The Americans have already patented our piss while you were busy shooing us out of your colonies..
Have some heart, show some mercy instead of being completely and disgustingly selfish..Learn something from us for a change.
Goodnight, I hope my words have some effect on your otherwise hard heart and you wake up with a resolution of saving at least one stray animal in your life.

P.S. Sundaara , kaali and Monty are all real characters and not some fictional creations of my idle mind. They are stray animals who have been coming to our house since they were kids along with few other dogs and cows. My mom and few of her friends have been continuously working for their betterment but there is negligible efforts when it comes to government (except on the auspicious occasion of id-ul-juha or bakrid when suddenly there is a flurry of activity among stray catchers so that they can sell stray cows for butchering making them a hefty profit.)

My sister during her college days was involved with SPCA Noida (the blog is not active due to lack of human resources)the contacts of which can be found here . There should be one center of SPCA in each city and if not possible at least major cities so as to prevent cruelty being doled out to innocent animals.

The contact of SPCA India branches-
all over INDIA

This is my effort in ISB iDiya for Indichange written for Indiblogger.

  2. First of all, brevity is beauty. If you write such a long-winded article, half of your intended audience will stop reading once they discover the length. Second, what's the point of displaying a personal picture and tagging it as 'personal' in a public blog? Is there any logic in this?

So, the point of this post is, you want the world to appreciate your feelings and concerns for cows (and dogs) and be applauded for it. Because, there is no focus on the possible solutions (except that SPCA with which your sister is involved, not you).

Writing it from the point of view of a cow is nothing new, but it's different from the many other personal blogs I visit.

There is one thing that you'll realize as you grow up - Human beings are deadlier towards one another, than they are towards animals. Get rid of your deceptively colored imagery about human beings (with regard to each other), soon. Even otherwise you will, eventually.

    THE ANON STRIKES.

  4. Hahaha. Whoever this anonymous commentor is... First off. My sundara has more guts than you.. Be a man. If you have a judgement, be brave enough to post it by your name.
Second, its not always that a human being makes any effort for some good cause... But when someone does, please dont start with your rationalism and bla bla bullshit. Cause may be writing a blog wont help the strays ,but your grinning and winding and dancing on your criticism around a harmless blog ,wont be of any help either..!

  7. Hey Ratika! Good piece of writing. And, as for Mr. Anonymous pity him for he is only trying to prove his own point - that he can be a human being deadlier to his own kind :)

  8. This is a wonderful piece Doc!!
Even we care for these creatures. My Mom keeps a bowl of water for the dogs, feeds the cat daily and also gives the cows rotis. She even feeds the crows everyday with gathiya!!

  9. Nice Asteria. Good to see the care you have for animals. People who are cruel to animals can never be kind to other humans however good they may appear on the surface.

The way your family & you've stood for these animals is beautiful & touching. I used to hv a limited time catering to a few street dogs when in Delhi. I would now write about those times someday for sure.

  12. Totally agree with your Ratika. we all know how cruelly human treat some of these animals. and why cannot people stop eating them?

i see many cows and dogs on the road searching for food. i feed them whenever i see them but that's definitely not enough. they need food on a regular basis.

thankfully there are people like your mom and sister who are kind enough to take care of them.

    1. I just hope people understand that we need animal support in sustaining our self, if they cant show some humanity for sake of humanity at least they should do it out of fear.

  13. Its pathetic the way we treat speechless animals. Human being is worst than animal. We use people things and life and thats it...beyond that we do not know how to give back to society to the world.
